Peripheral Neuropathy and Acupuncture: A Patient Story

Anthony shares how acupuncture at Bethpage Acupuncture brought steady, lasting relief from the burning, tingling, and numbness of peripheral neuropathy.

Peripheral Neuropathy and Acupuncture: A Patient Story

"I didn't really have a good way to explain it when it started," said Anthony. At first it was just a strange tingling in my feet. Not painful, just… off. Like they were half asleep all the time. Then it turned into burning. Some nights it felt like my feet were on fire. Other times they were numb to the point where I couldn't feel the ground properly when I walked. That's when it started affecting everything. I became more careful going up and down stairs. Standing too long was uncomfortable. Even sitting wasn't always a break—the tingling would just keep going. Sleep got worse. I'd wake up because of the burning or the restlessness in my legs. I had tried medications, balms, seen plenty of specialists before ending up at Bethpage Acupuncture. When I started treatment, it wasn't dramatic. The first few sessions were acupuncture, along with some light electrical stimulation and ATP therapy. I remember thinking after the first visit, "I don't feel much different." And that was true. But I kept going. After a couple of weeks, I noticed the burning wasn't as intense at night. It was still there, but it didn't feel as sharp. I wasn't waking up as often. That alone felt like something. Jennifer adjusted things as we went. Some visits included electro acupuncture, and later ozone therapy was added. She would ask very specific questions each time—not just "does it hurt," but how it changed, when it showed up, what felt different from the week before. The progress came in small pieces. The tingling didn't disappear, but it became less constant. I started feeling more stable when I walked. I wasn't thinking about my feet every second of the day anymore. There were still days where symptoms came back stronger. That didn't change overnight. But those days became less frequent, and they didn't last as long. That's what made the difference for me. It wasn't a sudden fix. It was the fact that things were actually improving—and staying that way. Now, I'm at a point where I can go through most of the day without really thinking about it. I still come in for treatments, just not as often. It feels more like maintaining where I am instead of trying to catch up. If you're dealing with peripheral neuropathy, you probably know how frustrating it can be. It's not just discomfort—it changes how you move, how you sleep, how you go about your day. Coming to Bethpage Acupuncture didn't erase everything overnight. But it gave me something I didn't have before—real, lasting relief that built over time. And that's what kept me going back," Anthony said.
